Updating WPML

WPML and its add-ons update from a single screen: WPML > Activate & Update. The same screen registers the site, lists every WPML and Toolset plugin you can install, and tracks which versions you have vs. which are current.

Where to Update

Open WPML > Activate & Update. The page has two sections (WPML and Toolset), each with its own registration banner and plugin table.

For each plugin you’ll see: the version installed, the current version, the release date, and a link to the release notes. Plugins with an available update show an amber Update badge.

Check for New Versions

Click Check for updates in the registration banner. WPML pings the WPML.org servers and refreshes the Current column. If an update is available, the Update badge appears next to the plugin.

Install or Update Plugins

  1. Tick the checkbox next to each plugin you want to install or update.
  2. (Optional) Tick Activate after download at the bottom if you want WPML to activate the plugins automatically after the download finishes. Leave unchecked if you’re staging an update for a maintenance window.
  3. Click Download.

WPML downloads and installs each selected plugin. The version columns update when the install completes.

Why Updates Sometimes Don’t Show up Immediately

If you’ve just renewed your subscription and the update isn’t visible, the registration banner is using cached license data. Click Check for updates to refresh. WPML re-queries WPML.org and picks up the renewed account state.

If the issue persists, open WPML > Support > System check and run Refresh license data. That clears the local license cache and re-fetches the account state directly.

Installing Beta Versions

Beta versions are off by default. To opt in:

  1. Go to wpml.org/account/ and switch your account to the Receive beta versions channel.
  2. Back on the site, open WPML > Activate & Update and click Check for updates.
  3. Beta versions of available plugins appear in the Current column.

Switch the channel back to Stable when you want to leave beta updates.

Finding the WPML Account That Owns This Site

If you’ve forgotten which email address owns the WPML account this site is registered under, the registration banner on WPML > Activate & Update shows a masked sitekey (e.g. ******abcd). Take that masked suffix to your WPML account. If you have a login, the account page lists the registered sites and their full keys.

If you don’t have a login, the original account-creation email from accounts@wpml.org contains the credentials. Search your inbox for that sender.
