Changelog

New

  • ACF field groups with no translation mode are now automatically set to “Same fields” when the WPML setup wizard completes, or when Translate Everything is enabled from the Translation Management dashboard. Field groups you already configured (Same fields, Different fields, or Expert) are left untouched.
  • ACF custom fields are now automatically set to Translate (text, wysiwyg, url, link) or Copy (media, choice) after the WPML setup wizard runs or when Translate Everything is enabled, so existing ACF content is translated without re-saving each post.
  • URL, Link and Page Link fields now default to “Translate”, so external link labels and URLs can be translated. Internal links are automatically converted to point at the translated page when they are not translated manually.
  • Added a confirmation popup when changing a field’s translation preference in Expert mode, warning that the content will be automatically re-translated (Translate Everything).
  • When a post’s field groups use different translation options, the post editor notice now lists each field group with its translation option and a link to edit it, in both the block and classic editors.
  • Added a notice in the post editor explaining that media texts (alt, caption, title) of ACF image, gallery, and file fields are not translated until WPML’s “Translate Media Library texts when translating content” setting is enabled, with a link to that setting.

Fixes

  • Fixed translation preferences being ignored for ACF Clone and Group fields used in Gutenberg blocks.
  • Fixed same-slug ACF fields with different translation settings sometimes receiving the wrong setting and not being sent for translation.
  • Fixed posts with a “Different fields across languages” field group being wrongly translated by Translate Everything.
  • Fixed posts with a Localization-mode field group being wrongly included in the Translate Everything bulk “translate all past content” queue.
  • Fixed ACF fields not being returned by the ACF API (for example get_fields()) when reviewing a translation in “Translate Everything” + “Review before publishing” mode.
  • Fixed ACF image, gallery, and file field attachments not always being included in WPML translation packages, including images re-used from the media library.
  • Fixed alt text, caption, and title of ACF image and gallery fields not appearing in the translation editor when “Translate media library texts” is enabled.
  • Fixed ACF conditional logic not working in secondary languages when a rule depends on a relational field (taxonomy, post object, page link, relationship).
  • Fixed Copy-once subfields inside a Group on an ACF Options page not being copied to secondary languages when an empty translation option row already existed.
  • Fixed get_field() returning the raw, unformatted value on translated terms for any field set to Copy (image, taxonomy, relationship, and others), not just images.
  • Fixed the custom label of a Link field being overwritten when the translated page is a duplicate.
  • Fixed Taxonomy fields being editable in a secondary language even when locked and set to Copy.
  • Fixed copied ACF fields being locked on the original post when its edit URL carried a trid parameter, for example when arriving via the WPML language switcher.
  • Fixed the checked state of copied checkbox, radio, and taxonomy fields being nearly invisible when editing a translation in the native editor.
  • Fixed group field edits being dropped when a group contains a sub-group with multiple fields, where only the first change was saved.
  • Fixed a confirmation popup wrongly appearing when saving an unchanged ACF field group attached to translated posts.
  • Fixed a JavaScript error when saving posts with field groups that have different translation preferences.
  • Fixed a fatal error when editing an ACF Options page in a secondary language while WPML String Translation is not installed.
  • Fixed a fatal error on the Plugins page when WPML is deactivated.
  • Fixed the ACF Options Pages integration being loaded when only ACF Free is active, since Options Pages are an ACF Pro feature.
  • Aligned the background color of ACFML admin notices with the WPML standard.
  • Reviewed the notice prompting users to set a field group’s translation mode, to make sure it only shows when relevant.

Performance

  • Improved the performance of admin post listings by caching ACFML field group lookups in the translation editor hooks, which previously ran one query per post row.
  • Improved the performance of afterCopyObjectField, which could cause a significant slowdown.
  • Fixed a typo in a remove_filter hook name that caused a performance issue when saving a secondary post with many fields set to Copy or Copy once.

Update or download

The update is available to all WPML clients with an active subscription — it appears on the Plugins page in your WordPress admin within 24 hours of release. You can also check for it right away under Plugins → Add New Plugin → Commercial. To download and install manually, go to Downloads in your wpml.org account (see the installation instructions) and remember to update all components together without mixing versions.
