Activate WPML – Register Your Site Key and Install the Add-Ons

Register WPML

1. In your WordPress sidebar, go to WPML > Activate & Update.
2. Click Register WPML.
3. In the dialog, click Get a key for this site. You’ll be taken to your WPML account in a new tab.
4. On the WPML account page, pick the site type:
   • Production. For your live, public-facing site.
   • Development. For staging, development, or local sites. Development keys have their own quota. They don’t draw from your production words.
5. Copy the generated site key.
6. Return to the WordPress tab and paste the key into the Site Key field.
7. Click Register.

WPML is now registered to your subscription.

Install WPML and the Add-Ons Your Site Needs

Still on WPML > Activate & Update, the screen lists the available WPML components.

1. Check WPML (the core plugin) and WPML String Translation. String Translation is needed for translating theme and plugin texts, widgets, and admin texts.
2. Tick Activate after download.
3. Click Download.

Other add-ons are auto-selected based on what’s on your site. For example, WPML Multilingual & Multicurrency for WooCommerce if WooCommerce is installed, or WPML Media Translation if you want per-language media. You can add, remove, or update components later from the same menu.
