WPML

Agencies and Freelancers Managing Several Client Sites

You manage WPML on multilingual WordPress sites for several clients. One WPML.org account; one AI translation budget; many genuinely different sites. From this setup you want to:

  • Apply the same word balance to whichever site needs translation work today.
  • Move unused words from a quiet site to a site that’s translating heavily.
  • Bill each client for what their site consumed against your unified PAYG invoice.
  • Cap per-site spend so a bulk content import on one client’s site doesn’t drain the whole budget.

The mechanics described below sit underneath the WPML Agency Billing workflow – that page covers the dashboard, the per-client billing, and the multi-site consumption view that ride on top of the word-sharing layer.

How to Share Words Across Your Sites

The controls live in your WPML account under Manage Words:

  1. Sign into your WPML account.
  2. Open Manage Words (this was called Manage Credits in WPML 4).
  3. For each site you manage, you can:
    • Allocate a specific word quota to that site.
    • Move words between sites.
    • Set a per-site spending cap.
    • View consumption and recent translation activity.

When You Don’t Need This Page

If you’re cloning a WPML site to staging, restoring a backup, or moving a site to a new domain – you don’t need this page. WPML 5 detects the move automatically and shares your words, translation memory, and glossary between the production site and the copy with no setup on your part.

This page exists specifically for the multi-site case where the sites are different sites, not copies of one.

What Changed in WPML 5

The mechanism is preserved from WPML 4 with two changes:

  • Credits > Words in every client-facing label. The internal billing math is unchanged; only the displayed unit changed (1 PTC word = 4 of the old credits, so the numbers in your account look smaller but represent the same content volume).
  • Per-site spending controls and the consumption-across-all-sites view moved into the new Agency Dashboard for cleaner multi-site workflows.
